FAsT™ Overview

The FAsT™ components

How is FAsT™ administered?

A Simple Three Step Process

Bottom Line: An injured hand functions differently than a normal, non-injured hand. FAsT™“sees” and measures that  difference.

The Process: FAsT™ (Functional Assessment Test)

96%+ Accuracy ! ! ! ! !

The FAsT™ hand screening system is designed to provide objective measurement of the screened hand’s functional capabilities. The results derived from this screen are intended as an indication of functional performance only. No medical diagnosis is intended or implied.

The FAsT™ Hand Screening System is a computer assisted, bio-mechanical screening system.  It uses a technology that was developed on the basic premise that pain, disease and injury modify the way the body functions.  This system objectively measures:

  • Strength and Fatigue
  • Balance and control, and
  • Digit and inter-digit communication

The   FAsT™ hand screening system was developed specifically to objectively identify both presence and absence of hand injuries.  The FAsT™ system represents a scientific breakthrough in diagnostic and detection technology.  No needles, no electrical stimuli, no pain.

Time-Resolved Force™ Technology enables extremely effective Computer Aided Detection and Diagnostic Service and Support through the application of a very simple data collection device that is safe, fast and exceptionally accurate.

THE SCREEN.  Simply “squeeze and release”.  The screen measures the force that your thumb, index and small fingers exert on the test device (about the size, and shape, of a roll of quarters).

WILL IT HURT? About as much as  holding a can of soda.  The device collects data in a completely non-invasive manner:  No electrical stimulation, no electrical contacts and no needles.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? The total procedure takes about fifteen minutes per hand.  Data collection takes about 5 minutes.

IS IT EASY TO DO?  Absolutely! Fill out a short questionnaire, observe a brief demonstration, “squeeze and release”, and your done.  That’s it. Test results will be sent for review.

PURPOSE OF THE TEST:

The purpose of the Functional Assessment Test (FAsT™) is to provide a quick comparison of the tested individual’s functionality capabilities with the capabilities associated with uninjured healthy hands. By testing applicants for a particular job function that may cause problems with individuals who have prior injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, the employer may place applicants in job positions commensurate with their abilities. This reduces the probability of further injury to the employees and allows for a safer job environment.

An injured hand performs repetitive tasks differently than healthy, non-injured hands. By comparing the screened hands to the known capabilities of healthy hands, we can determine the probability that the screened hands compare favorably or poorly with respect to the healthy hands.
